Icom is a well-known and respected manufacturer of amateur (ham) radios, avionics, land mobile, marine, and shortwave
receivers. Here is a general description of their amateur radio offerings best suited for portable applications such as survivalists would need.
IC-703 Plus, Now in a QRP Version
Don't sacrifice big rig features just because you want to operate QRP!
Whether hiking in the mountains or taking a leisurely stroll through the park, the IC-703 is the "Real Deal" HF QRP rig! Built-in is an automatic antenna tuner and DSP*, plus there's a newly designed PA circuit to provide a clean 5W signal with only 9.6V DC. The IC-703 also supports true QRP operation with enhancements of features and components to be very efficient to prolong operation of the battery pack. The optional BP-228 battery pack allows up to 7 hours of operating enjoyment.
The Amazing Evolution of the '706' Series...
The IC-706MKIIG carries on the '706' series tradition of base station performance and features in a mobile rig-sized package. Building on this legacy, frequency coverage is expanded to the 70 cm band and output power is increased for the 2 m band. A long list of enhancements, both to usability and performance, as well as added features and functions have produced the latest in the evolution of the '706' series.
The Superior IF DSP is Now Available on Mobile HF, 50MHz, 144MHz and 430/440MHz bands
IF DSP — First in its class
Digital IF filter, manual notch filter, digital twin PBT and more. The latest digital features are incorporated in this compact radio from two DSP chips that deliver superior processing performance. Of course, those features work on all ham bands, from HF to the 70cm band.
AGC loop performance controlled by DSP
You will never experience AGC pumping from a signal filtered out by the DSP system. The digital IF filter and manual notch filter are inside the AGC loop, so you will not encounter AGC blocking. The AGC time constants are flexibly adjustable from slow, middle, fast (or AGC-off) for each operating mode.
Digital IF filters
All the filters you want at your fingertips! You will never have to purchase "Optional" filters as the IC-7000 has adjustable digital filters. You just dial in the width you want and select whether you want a sharp or soft filter shape for SSB and CW modes. Then to pull-in the the weak ones, with a quick turn of the concentric twin PBT knobs, you can either narrow the IF passband, or shift the entire passband to eliminate the QRM.
2-point MNF (Manual notch filter)
Pull out the weak signals in crowded band conditions with Icom's NEW two-point MNF (manual notch filter). Apply 70 dB of rejection to two signals at once! Notch width is adjustable-wide, medium, and narrow - and an auto-tuning notch filter is available, too.
Digital noise reduction
Noise reduction reduces background noise and improves signal-to-noise ratio. The noise reduction level is adjustable in 16 steps. It improves the readability of voice and data signals.
Digital noise blanker
The noise blanker reduces pulse-type noise such as engine ignition and sparking. The NB level and width (blanking duration) are adjustable in 100 steps.
35W output in 70cm band
High power MOS-FET amps supply 35W output power on 430/440MHz band as well as 100W on HF/50MHz bands and 50W on 144MHz. It provides stable, high quality output with low IMD and low spurious emissions even during high duty cycle and extended operation.
High stability crystal unit
The IC-7000 incorporates a high-stability master oscillator, providing 0.5ppm (-0°C to +50°C). A must for data mode operation.
DDS (Direct digital synthesizer) circuit
Icom's original DDS (Direct digital synthesizer) circuit improves the C/N ratio, providing a clear, clean transmit signal in all bands.
Compact, all in one package
The IC-7000 sheds 20mm (25/32 in) of depth compared with the IC-706MKIIG.
Its compact body is easy for carrying outdoors or mobile operation.
The Origin of the HF Transceiver
The HF bands allow you to communicate over long distances covering many km even to the other side of the world. With the superior performance found in the IC-718 such as wide dynamic range, high C/N ratio, and full duty operation you will find making these contacts easy. Experience the combination of the latest RF and digital technology, along with the size and simplified operation. You will see the IC-718 will be the most practical rig you will ever own.
Front mounted loud speaker
The IC-718 has a speaker mounted on the front panel. With the speaker facing the operator, audio sounds can be clearly heard without impediment during operation. It is no longer necessary to manually increase the volume to try and capture audio sounds.
Superior basic performance
The IC-718 has 0.03-29.999999 MHz* general coverage receive capability. A 4-element system is employed for the 1st receive mixer, providing superior receive IMD, especially from in-band near-by interfering signals. A well-designed double-conversion system to help minimize image and spurious responses for better signal fidelity, is also built-in. A newly designed PLL circuit has been adopted to improve C/N ratio characteristics. The combination of the 4-element system mixer and new PLL circuit allows superior basic performance as that of a commercial grade transceiver.
*Guaranteed range: 0.5-29.999999 MHz
DSP capability*
The DSP includes the following to give you superior receiver quality in your shack, vehicle or during DX'pedition.
*DSP is built in to U.S. models, but may be optional outside the U.S. Please check with your dealer.
Noise reduction:
Pulls desired AF signals from noise. Outstanding S/N ratio is achieved, providing clean audio in SSB, AM and FM.
Automatic Notch filter:
This automatically minimizes beat signals and heterodynes while preserving the receive signal. Also, the notch frequency is automatically adjusted to follow interfering beat signals - for example, reducing interference from RTTY signals during SSB operation.
The amateur radio gear shown above is the gear that a survivalist would need to maintain portability. For more intense applications you will find the high-end Icom radios more appropriate, simply click on "fixed" link at the top of this screen.
